Meeting report - April 2018

It was good to see so many at our recent meeting. After some brief business our annual meeting opened with an interesting review from our secretary of the speakers, outings and entertainment we had experienced over the past year. From darts to detective talking on art forgery and Ten Pin Bowling to Blue Badge Guide talks on royalty and some amazing topics inbetween! We have enjoyed some excellent educational trips and tasty lunches and teas at local restaurants over the year, all organised by members.

The financial report was presented and adopted, and our retiring president of three years gave her report. Michelle reminisced that she was now our longest continuous serving WI member having joined over 20 years ago and how she has valued every one of the friendships made over that time. She thanked her retirement committee for all their hard work and the assistance she had been given during her office as president. Annual awards were presented to the winners of our monthly competitions and to the winner of our highest individual dart score. During a break we were able to view an archive display of the 80 years that Rippingale and District have been in existence. A beautiful silk screen that had been embroidered by members was greatly admired as were many photographs that previous presidents had thoughtfully put into books. Also on view were the range of Institute and Federation events available for members to attend including two forthcoming Craft Club afternoons, a group Social Evening of pub games at Stamford, a Lincolnshire Ladies Lunch at Burghley Park Golf Club and details of the Make Bake and Show Schedule to be held in October. As the meeting drew to a close, a new committee was formed a new president Hilary Magill elected.

Our next meeting will be on the 3rd of May 2018 when we will be discussing the WI Resolution for this year and enjoying some social time together with a shared supper. Visitors are always given a warm welcome to our meetings. For further information please contact Hilary on 01778 440360 or email radwi@btinternet.com
